Help your Child - Even while they are asleep!

Parents can help their children make changes even while they are sleeping!

It is beneficial to spend a few minutes with your child prior to bedtime. Just let them talk about their day, their feelings, their experiences-the good, the disturbing, and the satisfying. A particularly effective approach is to use Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT.) LINK HERE

Then, leave the room and let the child drift off to sleep. Fifteen to thirty minutes later, after the child has drifted off to sleep, but is not deeply asleep, begin talking to the child in a soft voice (loudly enough to be heard, but softly enough to allow the child to continue sleeping) and use a couple of the suggestions below. You might want to gently wipe their brow, hold their hand, or stroke their arm. Begin with a calm suggestion such as “You are so peaceful drifting and floating off to dreamland…just continue to drift and float off while I let you know how much I care for you and want the best for you.” “Even though you can hear me you just find it so difficult to open your eyes that you just leave them closed.” Watch for a sign such as a deep breath, a smile, or a sigh and then just comment, “That's right, just relax…just relax…as you drift off to sleep, or float off to sleep, or drift and float or float and drift and drift and float, that's right just relax..”

You can read any, many, or all of the ones you feel are applicable.   If there is a specific problem that needs attention, you can craft suggestions to point the child in that direction. Make sure the suggestions are focused on positive outcomes, not avoiding negative consequences. For example: you do not state, “You do not find school boring.” Instead, you phrase it positively such as, “You find pleasure and satisfaction as you learn new things at school.” Or “It is enjoyable and fun to conquer the challenges you face at school.”

The wording on the following suggestions has been carefully structured for maximum effectiveness. The language is correct to effect change and a positive self-image. Use the bedtime ritual often and watch the changes take place. Tailor your suggestions along these lines and you'll do fine.
